• General Information
  • NOTE: RUPD/REMS operations are now on the TxWARN Project 25 system's Houston Public Safety layer and are mostly encrypted.
  • 453.2 MHz was an old University of Texas Medical Center Police frequency, which was now used by RUPD via agreement with UT. The antenna was on the roof of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at 6723 Bertner Avenue. The use of this frequency was discontinued in May 2010.
  • The dispatcher uses a mobile radio with a desk microphone to listen to and transmit on the repeater. This prevents units from being able to interrupt the dispatcher and allows the dispatcher to step on units in the field.
  • Rice Police and EMS use Motorola HT 1000 portable radios (and some others makes/models).
  • Rice Police may monitor HPD channel A9 (H: South Central [10] and Eastside [11] Districts) at 460.55 MHz (R) [123.0]. Rice is in the 10-H-80 beat and immediately adjacent to the 10-H-70 beat (along Main Street).
  • Rice EMS may monitor HFD channel A1 (Fire/EMS Dispatch) at 453.425 MHz (R) [127.3].
  • Police shifts are from 6am-2pm (day), 2pm-10pm (evening), and 10pm-6am (night).
  • College Officer Program (COP) officers work 6pm-2am.
  • University of Texas Police (Houston Medical Center) and West University Police occasionally work overtime Police jobs for the RUPD, in the rare event they use the radio they use their department's unit ID prefixed by either "UTPD" or "West U." or variants. Harris County Sheriff's Deputies and Constables also work overtime jobs for the RUPD, usually football games. Other agencies may work special overtime jobs such as Galena Park Police, Texas DPS, etc.
  • For police mutual aid, West University Police or Precinct 1 Constables are usually notified first.  The Houston Police Department may be requested as well.

• IM Sports operations are on Family Radio Service (FRS) radios.

• Monitor RUPD/REMS channel 1 for commandpost operations (RUPD/REMS details).
• For foreign heads of state, monitor Secret Service "Charlie" 165.375 MHz (R/S) [103.5], "Mike" 165.2125 MHz (S) [103.5], and "Papa" 164.4 MHz (S) [103.5]. (Check other Secret Service frequencies as well.)
• For other foreign dignitaries, monitor the Department of State Diplomatic Security Service commandpost/motorcades on 409.625 MHz (R/M) [151.4] and protection agents on 407.6 MHz (M) [151.4]. (Check other DOS frequencies as well.)
• Monitor HPD motorcades and escort operations on Citywide (Ch. A5/B5) on 460.425 (R) [123.0] and CID (Ch. B9) on 460.4 (R) [123.0]. (Also check HPD Car-to-Car (Ch. A8/B8) on 460.225 (M) [123.0].)
• The Federal Reserve Bank Chairman's detail can be heard on 413.925 (M).

• Monitor RUPD/REMS channel 1 for RUPD/REMS details.
• Also monitor low-power 49 MHz radio frequencies: 49.83, 49.845, 49.86, 49.875, 49.89. These have not been used for several years.
• Expect RPC Beer-Bike coordinators using the 49 MHz headset radios.  For Beer-Bike 2000 and 2001, RPC Beer-Bike coordinators used 49.845 MHz. 49 MHz headset radios were not used in 2002.
• Expect Beer-Bike parade security and race judges using F&E channel 2 with Beer-Bike coordinators (verified 2000 and 2001). For Beer Bike 2000, the campus-wide Beer Bike student security coordinator used RUPD channel 1 with RUPD. For Beer-Bike 2002, parade, security, and track operations were all on F&E channel 2. For Beer-Bike 2003, event coordination was on F&E channel 3 and EMS operations were on Police/EMS channel 2. For Beer-Bike 2006, student event coordination was on F&E channel 2 and the EMS commandpost was on Police/EMS channel 2.

• Monitor RUPD/REMS channel 1 for RUPD/REMS details. For NOD (1999) REMS introduced EMS details that IDed as "EMS" followed by the number 1, 2 or 3.
• For NOD (2004) Wiess College used F&E channel 3 for operations/security.
• For NOD (1999-2001) Wiess College used F&E channel 2 for operations/security.
• For NOD (1998) Wiess College used Radio Shack TRC-507 five-channel headset radios with the channel plan below.

• Same radios were used for the Baker Theatre production of the musical Camelot (1999), with different channel assignments.
• The stage/tech crew uses Radio Shack TRC-510 five-channel radios (channel plan below).
• Performance audio is broadcast through a baby monitor.  The baby monitor is capable of using either channel B or D.
